This is a website created by students of Roger McDonald's Group in the Curation Practice course of Arts Initiative Tokyo's MAD Program. It was created in March 2009 in Tokyo, Japan.
The website contains short text instruction works from artists for the purposes of an individual to communicate with a Full Moon. Anyone is free to realize the instructions.
The project arose from our interest in a non-anthropocentric approach to curating practice, which explores what is called 'Panpsychism', or the belief that all material things possess some degree of 'mind' or intelligence. While relating to archaic Japanese animist belief systems, this interest also attempts to probe new avenues for future curatorial practices that situates itself not within the orthodox matrix of 'artist - curator - audience', but an expanded (or exploded) field of cosmic relations. By enacting the instructions below, we hope that possibilities for re-individuation may emerge.
Please click on the name of the artist below to see their instruction.
The curators of the project gratefully acknowledge the kindness and assistance of all the participating artists, AIT, and NASA Images for the title image.
